sustainability is at the heart of what we do

1% for the planet

at crap, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword. it’s something i care about. i spend a lot of time outdoors, whether it’s hiking for fun or filming somewhere remote, and i want to protect the places that inspire me.

starting crap meant making a lot of choices. what to make, how to make it, and how to do it without wrecking the planet. the biggest question for me was how do i build something useful and affordable without it coming at the cost of the environment

we’ve only got one planet. the forests, the mountains, the ocean. that stuff keeps me sane and keeps me creative. if it disappears, what’s the point.

i don’t think you have to choose between being smart and being sustainable. you can do both. you should do both.

so i try to make better decisions. even when they take more time or cost a little more. things like cutting down waste in packaging, using lower-impact shipping, and giving back to nature. it all adds up.

i’m not perfect. but i care. and i’m doing what i can to make crap a brand that’s good for people and better for the planet.

if you support crap, you’re helping me build something that actually tries to do the right thing.

here’s what i’m doing to keep things sustainable.

giving back to nature
i donate 1% of profits to wwf in the netherlands. they fight for climate and nature protection. right now it’s hard to make a profit in the early years (big losses, haha) but once there is, i’ll share it in the newsletter.

minimal packaging
one way i keep the products cheaper than the competition is by skipping the fancy packaging you’d toss in seconds anyway. your POUCH or screenmount just comes in the shipping box, with some padding if needed. not much of an unboxing moment, but way better for all of us.

lower carbon shipping
i ship by train from asia to the netherlands. it’s slower than flying, but way better for the planet. trains emit a lot less co₂ than planes, and even less than big container ships when you look at smaller loads. small goods are still flown in for now, but once the orders get bigger, they’ll ride the train too.

bulk orders ship smart
this comes down to you, of course. the more you buy in one push, the happier i’ll be and the less shipping materials and emissions get wasted in the process. win win, right?
